Advent 2020 Devotion: Week 1

“I saw in the night visions, and behold, with the clouds of heaven there came one like a son of man, and he came to the Ancient of Days and was presented before him. And to him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him; his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom one that shall not be destroyed" Daniel 7:13-14

This is the messianic prophecy that Daniel dreamed about. Behold, there came a prince, like man, who was able to sit beside God. When Daniel had this vision, he was confused and anxious, not knowing who this coming king is, one who would defeat previous beastly rulers, who were corrupted, evil, and destructive. Unlike other rulers, this king was completely favoured by God, being granted dominion over an everlasting kingdom.

Imagine having the same dream, would you be afraid? Or would this vision remind you of someone whom we know is great, worthy and honourable? The good news is, we know who this is, He is our Saviour. He is not a four-headed, horn-filled beast who abuses its power. He is a King who breaks His very much deserved inherited power, to redeem powerless people like us.

This is our privilege – The Word. We can know for sure that Daniel’s vision years before Christ was born, is no longer a prophecy, but a prophecy fulfilled, a fact that Jesus is real, He existed and continues to exist. And so, the best gift this season is our Bibles, and through our Bibles, Christ Himself.

Let us confidently and securely trust in Christ this Christmas, remembering that there is none more superior than Him.

Prayer: Dear Lord, You have planned our salvation even before anything was created. You have planned for this to only happen by the sacrifice of a perfect Lamb. Thank you that we celebrate not the festivities, but Your precious Son’s birth. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
